Yes! With over 15,000 in use across the UK and EU the Flow Hive has transformed backyard beekeeping across all climates. It makes beekeeping more accessible and lets you harvest honey straight from the hive without disturbing the bees.

Watch David Beckham and his family enjoy the process from build to harvest, along with visits to UK customers in our Meet the Beekeeper series.

A common talking point is crystallisation – a common issue across all hive types with ivy or rapeseed honey – however the Flow System offers unique advantages. Watch Jamie Oliver explain how harvesting rapeseed honey early can help avoid crystallisation in the Flow Super.

Bees rarely find their way into empty beehive boxes, even though they are designed to be a perfect home for them.

There are a number of ways of starting a colony, from buying a package of bees, to receiving a hive split or catching a swarm.

We also have a range of videos and blogs to help you understand the different ways in which you can source bees for your new hive.

The amount of honey for harvesting depends on many factors, including hive strength, local climate and available forage.

When the Flow Super is full, you can expect to harvest approximately 3 kg (6.5 lb) per Flow Frame.

A 6 Frame Flow Hive can hive up to 18 kg (39 lb), and a 7 Frame Flow Hive can hive up to 21 kg (44 lb) of fresh, unfiltered honey each time the honey super is completely full.

When harvesting it's important to remember to leave enough honey stores for your colony to see them through the winter. Lessons on harvesting are provided on TheBeekeeper.org as well as weekly livestreamed lessons from the inventor on social media.

Flow Hives are perfect for setting-up just about anywhere.

You will need enough space to access the back of the hive for easy harvesting and your bees will require a clear space at the front of the hive for their flight path.

You'll also need to check-in with local governing bodies to find out if there are any regulations that you need to be aware of.

Here are some of our top tips on where to set up your beehive.

ThermoGrade Paulownia requires two coats of exterior house paint to extend longevity and guard against weathering. It’s the perfect canvas to get creative!

Note that we strongly recommend avoiding decking oil on this timber, as it can cause the wood to bleach and turn white after prolonged exposure to the elements.

Make sure to only paint the outside of the hive, leaving all the internal timber natural. This is important for the health and happiness of your bees. If you choose to limit the bees’ access to your roof cavity, this area can benefit from painting inside and out for extra weatherproofing.

After painting, allow the hive to air in the sun for a few days to reduce the fumes before housing your bees.
