CARE GUIDE
Beekeeping suits, jackets and gloves are valuable pieces of safety equipment. If you maintain them well and treat them with care, they can offer you long-lasting and functional sting prevention.
We share our best tips on how to care for your beekeeping suit (cleaning/storing) to make sure it's durable and provide you with the best possible ongoing protection here.
SAFETY
Beekeeping suits and other personal protective equipment can offer excellent prevention against bee stings, but are not 100 percent effective. It’s important new beekeepers exercise caution when tending to their hives and are comfortable with the fact that sooner or later, all beekeepers get stung.

Your questions answered
Do I need to wear a bee suit, bee veil or gloves when I drain the honey out?
We recommend you wear a protective beekeeper suit whenever you are opening your hive and working with your bees, and though this should not be necessary when harvesting, it is important to have a suit on hand in case your bees become agitated.
For more information see this Flow sponsored safety pamphlet.
What bee suit size should I choose?
Bee suits are designed to be worn slightly baggy over your normal clothing, so it’s best to choose a slightly larger size than you would normally wear.
Be sure to give yourself plenty of room to move around with additional length for movement – ankles and wrists need to remain covered when you’re crouching, bending or stretching.
You do not want the suit to be tight fitting – it’s this loose fitting material that offers sting prevention.

What is GOTS organic cotton?
What’s good for the bees is good for us and that’s why we choose organic cotton. Cotton for our organic textiles range is grown without synthetic fertilisers or pesticides, and no toxic chemicals are used in the fiber spinning and fabric weaving process. This is good news for the bees, the farmers and the makers, and for the beekeeping families wearing our Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified Toddler, Kids, and Adult Bee Suits, mesh veils and Flow caps.
Do you have children's size beekeeping suits?
We have protective wear in all sizes to accommodate all members of the family, including children size beekeeping suits and toddler size beekeeping suits.
