Our best-selling brood box, crafted from responsibly sourced* ThermoGrade™ Paulownia for lightweight strength and better hive insulation.
Manufactured in the same style as the brood boxes included with our Flow Hive 2, these ThermoGrade Paulownia brood boxes are built in standard Langstroth deep sizing, available in 8 or 10 frame configurations.
The brood box is where the queen lays eggs and the colony raises its young, making it the heart of a healthy hive. These boxes can also be used as an additional conventional honey super when extra space is needed during a strong nectar flow.
Each brood box features our unique V™ design, which also doubles as a convenient handle for lifting and inspections. Foundationless brood frames are included, allowing bees to naturally build their brood comb, while still accommodating wax and wire or plastic foundation if you wish.
Designed to integrate seamlessly with your Flow Hive or standard Langstroth equipment, these brood boxes provide the essential space and structure bees need to raise brood and grow a strong, thriving colony.
Our Flow Frames are slightly wider than traditional wooden brood frames, so less of them are required to fill the super in a hive in comparison to brood frames in the brood box.
– Our 8 Frame Brood Box is compatible with the 6 Frame Flow hive.
– Our 10 Frame Brood Box is compatible with the 7 Frame Flow hive.
This brood box is also designed to be compatible with Langstroth hives – please check specific dimensions on our brood box comparison table.
It is important to understand some basic safety guidelines to ensure that your beekeeping experience is a safe and positive one.

All ThermoGrade Flow Hives and Supers need to be sealed with at least 2 coats of exterior grade, good quality house paint. As with all outdoor paint, it will require a refresh every 12-24 months depending on local conditions.

ThermoGrade™ Paulownia / 8 Brood Frames: Sold OutOur Flow Hive 2 Brood Boxes are crafted from responsibly sourced ThermoGrade Paulownia, selected for durability and reliable performance outdoors.
Sourced from managed, fast-growing Paulownia plantations, the timber undergoes a specialised thermal modification process using only heat and steam. This chemical-free treatment improves stability by reducing moisture movement within the wood.
The ThermoGrade Paulownia supply chain has been independently audited by Preferred by Nature, a globally recognised non-profit that works with organisations to promote responsible land management and climate-friendly forestry practices.
Our original innovation revolutionised honey harvesting, and it’s now available in new ThermoGrade™ Paulownia, a long-lasting, lightweight timber with improved insulative properties.
Using an innovative, chemical-free thermal treatment, we've created a timber that improves longevity by making it less susceptible to fungi and bacteria, warping, swelling, or shrinking.
Paint it your way - apply two coats of exterior house paint for extra protection against the elements. It’s the perfect canvas to get creative!
ThermoGrade Paulownia is a very lightweight, fine-grained, and warp-resistant timber. It has natural insulating qualities which have been improved with our thermal treatment process – great news for cold climates, overwintering, and hot summers.
